So, there was this guy I really liked. He had a great job, making lots of money. This wasn't a huge deal to me though, but when he asked me out on a date I figured he'd be the one paying since I was a poor college student. Well he picks me up, drives around with me in his car for awhile and suggests "So, McDonald's for dinner?" I'm a go-with-the-flow kind of girl so I said "Sure". I ordered some chicken nuggets when he pulled up at the drive thru, and when he got to the window he asked me for 3$ to cover them! I was like "um....okay sure." We drove around awkwardly for an hour or two and then he took me home.
We'll call this guy "TennisPro". Nice profile picture, profile says professional athlete, according to all criteria we're a perfect match. I've played tennis since I was five, used to play in a league, etc. I was super excited when he was interested in meeting me.
Apparently I'm blind to all red flags because in hindsight they were everywhere...
Red Flag#1 the professional athlete turned out to be a (children's) tennis instructor at one of the local health clubs. In his eyes that made him a tennis pro. He played tournaments at that same club and was at the very bottom of the list.
Red Flag#2 he didn't have a car (long story about totaling the last car after break up with ex girlfriend blahblahblah - this really shouldn't matter but it gave a great excuse to invite me to a gourmet dinner at his house. He claimed to have also been a chef.
Red Flag#3 after much begging, and after I found out that his mother used to coach my tennis league, I caved and agreed to dinner at his house. He asked me to pick up some bread and wine which I foolishly did
Now the date...
I arrived at his house...nice little cottage. The furniture however looked like it was straight from a dumpster! At 35 I expect a guy to have at least somewhat decent furniture...after we said our hello's he took a look at the wine I brought and said, "do you expect me to drink this cheap crap?"
He then shoved the bottle in the fridge. Then he started to eat the bread. I looked around the kitchen, there was nothing on the stove...so I asked about dinner. "Do you really want to eat?" he asked. I reminded him that he had invited me to dinner. So he puts on some water for pasta and pulls a jar of marinara sauce from the cabinet. I mentioned that I didn't consider elbow macaroni & prego a gourmet dinner. He said that cooking a real pasta sauce would have taken all day, and he just did not have time for that (he'd been off for the past two days). He ate all the bread himself, and then served bud light in the can instead of the wine I brought. Then he insisted that we sit on his stained, pink couch so he could play the guitar for me. And serenade me. I played along for awhile until he started getting handsy. I then tried to do the polite thing, thanked him for dinner and left.
I thought that would be it. No...he then started to call me at all hours of the day and night to "chat", IM'd me whenever he saw that I was online and left me sappy comments on myspace. I never responded to any. After about three weeks or so I got a voicemail from him together with some girl calling me every name in the book, the b-word, the c-word, and the w-word, saying how jealous I must be now. This was about 2.5 years ago...he tried to friend me on FB last week. Rejected!

After many emails, phone calls, and IM conversations I agreed to meet up with stupid guy (SG) from singlesnet. We'd really hit it off, and I was looking forward to finally meeting him. We both live in the same town (on opposite ends). There are two local sports bars...we planned on meeting in Bar A for drinks and to watch the Redsox game. So far, so good. I arrive at Bar A (on time) - it's a Wednesday night, and the place is pretty much empty. I check the lounge area, SG's not there. I go upstairs to the bar area, SG's not there either. I go back out to the parking to call him. He's at Bar B! I drive to Bar B. It's now about 15 minutes after the agreed meeting time and I'm a little bit frazzled. I walk into Bar B, SG is already sitting at a table, two empty beer bottles next to him on the table. He had ordered a plate of appetizers which he had pretty much finished off. The waitress spots me, comes over, and I order a beer for myself, SG also decides he wants another. Waitress comes back with the two beers and just stands there. Then she asks for $12. SG does nothing - stupid me forks over $15, she doesn't ask if I want change and just leaves. SG tries to make some horribly forced small talk. Keeps saying how sore he is from working out. After about 30 minutes he declares that he is not feeling well at all and wants to leave. We go out to where my car is parked. He asks me to drive him to his car which is parked on the other side of the building. I drive him to his car, he gets out of my car and slams the door. No, thanks, good-bye, or anything. So I drive home. When I checked my myspace page the next day, he had unfriended & blocked me. So weird! Months later, he tries to IM me on yahoo messenger "hey, watcha up to?" I didn't answer, deleted & blocked him.
I met this guy at the pool at my apartment complex and he was instantly smitten. Came on strong, I was flattered and started dating him.
He told me that he was divorced and his ex-wife was a "Totally Evil Castrating Bitch" that was a blight on the face of the Earth -- ugly divorce and he seriously hated this woman. OK... remind me not to make him mad at me....
First couple of dates were fine. Then he mentioned another woman, Leslie, that had absolutely been the Love of His Life and how much I reminded him of her. But he wouldn't ever talk about why they weren't together. But I REALLY reminded him of her a lot. Foolish young thing that I was, I assumed Leslie must have died tragically or something similar.
Well, a couple of times, he'd call me on the phone, call me Leslie ( ) -- I did tell him had the wrong number and hang up! -- he'd call back and apologize (but I really reminded him of her!!) and we'd go on.
Finally, one night in bed, he called me Leslie.
I got up, told him to get dressed and get out -- if he couldn't manage to remember I wasn't this Leslie chick, then I was not sleeping with him! Who the hell is she anyway?!?!
Turns out, Leslie was the Evil Ex-Wife.
OMG!!!!
Obviously, he had too many issues for me to deal with and wasn't ready for another relationship. Booted him out and never spoke to him again. Not for lack of trying on his part, but I wasn't going to deal with that.

In college, I started talking to this guy through MySpace. He went to my school and we decided to meet at one of the bars with our friends. So far, so good. He was gorgeous and seemed like a really cool guy. So I'm getting ready to leave, and he calls me to ask if I'd be weirded out if he showed up in a KILT. I said okay, well that's different but fine I guess. I guess I thought he was just joking! But no, showed up in a full blown kilt complete with a green polo. He proceeded to bounce around performing crazy dances and turned out to be incredibly eccentric. So this was fine, not my type but not the end of the world. Out of no where, he gets into some huge fight with this random guy! They go outside and it results in some major drama and my friends and I rush out of there. He calls me and says he'd like to be my boyfriend and he requested to be "in a relationship" with me on Facebook. Needless to say, I said NO.
I referred to this guy as "Pork Chop Guy" -- 'cuz he stared at me like a starving dog would at a pork chop all evening. Barely said a word, I had to carry the entire conversation -- so there were some awkward lapses into silence -- just STARED. I thought his eyeballs were going to fall out and he was practically drooling.
Totally creepy!
Totally creepy!
I had the date with the guy I'd 'met' on an on-line dating service that had lied about EVERYTHING by the time we actually met in person. It still boggles my mind that he apparently didn't think I'd notice some of the more obvious things -- like he was 'over 6 feet tall' and turned out to be about 5'5" (maybe, he was shorter than I am), said he looked just like Brendan Gleason in Braveheart (big burly red-head) and he was slight, olive skinned, black haired with dark eyes. All I could think was 'if he lied about things like this, WHAT ELSE is he lying about?!?!?'
Oh and his Beemer was 'in the shop,' so he had to drive the Chevy, showed me exterior pictures of 'his' house, but it could have been anywhere!
AND, he was a know-it-all one-upper. Anything I had to say, he had to correct me and top it.
Do I have to say, that was the last date as well? -L.
